Converting Meters to Feet
Sod, or turf, is sold by the square yard. It is easiest to measure your yard with a measuring tape that shows feet and inches. If you did measure in feet, you are one step ahead. Congratulations, you can move to the next step.
Why Not Metric?
Most equipment used for harvesting is manufactured in the US, and for this reason, it is set up to harvest sod in square yards. In case you have measured it in metres, you will first need to convert each of your measurements into feet.
Calculating Square Feet in Various Shaped Areas
If you have a yard with various shaped areas, you will need to calculate the respective areas and then add the totals before converting the number of square feet into square yards.
You can use this handy calculator to calculate the number of square feet in different shape sections of your yard.
Note: All measurements need to be in FEET.
Circular Areas
Unfortunately, ovals are the hardest areas to calculate. Visualize the area as the average of a smaller circle, based on the shortest side of the oval, and then calculate the size of a circle the size of the oval's longest direction. Add these two totals together and then divide them by two. This will give you the approximate square footage of an oval area.

After you add up the number of square feet in each area, you can convert the number of square feet into square yards.
